COUNTRY ARTIST TRENT SUMMAR
TO PLAY TEXAS SHOWS IN JULY
BEHIND 2ND ALBUM, ‘HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES’
He’ll Return with ‘Farm Rock’ Tunes for Austin City Limits Music Festival
AUSTIN, Texas — Songwriter, recording artist and rowdy alt-country rocker Trent Summar and his band, The New Row Mob, are set to play Texas shows in July in support of his second album, HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES (Palo Duro Records), which climbed to #3 on the national R&R/Americana chart.
Summar and the band will appear with Two Tons of Steel during its Two Ton Tuesday concert on Tuesday, July 3, at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels; on Friday, July 6, at Amarillo’s Golden Light; and on Saturday, July 7, at Hemphill County Pavilion in Canadian. They’re also scheduled to play Sunday, July 8, at Love & War in Texas in Plano during a live “Shiner Sunday” concert broadcast on local radio station KHYI.
In addition, Summar and The New Row Mob will perform during Austin City Limits Music Festival, in Austin September 14-16 (official time and date TBA).
Austin American-Statesman’s Ed Crowell wrote about Summar in March: “High point [of his set during Palo Duro Records’ SXSW Showcase at The Broken Spoke]: Images of a blond Elvis in his Louisiana Hayride days, legs spread wide and a red jacket flapping before going down on his knees and shaking off his straw cowboy hat. Songs about horseshoes, hand grenades, St. Peter and needing ‘a gooseneck trailer to haul your love.’ ...”
HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES — named one of the 11 best country albums of 2006 by The Tennessean — is packed with clever, down-home farm-rock standards like “Really Never Loved Her Anyway,” an honest look at heartbreak; “Guys Like Me”; and the darkish, witty title track that plays off the old phrase that close counts only in horseshoes and hand grenades.
Also on the album — and on Summar and the band’s set list — are “She Knows What To Do with a Saturday Night” (co-written with Gary Nicholson and recorded by Billy Currington on his platinum sophomore album) and “Love You” (co-written with Jay Knowles), the cover of which by country artist Jack Ingram spent weeks atop The Texas Music Chart and whose video recently earned him a CMT award.
Members of The New Row Mob Band back Summar in the studio and on the road, putting the match to the songwriter’s dynamite showmanship and adding their own musical talents: smash-mouth player Ken McMahan on electric guitar; former Georgia Satellites hero Dan Baird on acoustic guitar; Dave Kennedy, formally of Walk the West and the lone holdover from Summar’s critically acclaimed 2000 self-titled debut album, on drums; and Michael “Supe” Granda, a founding member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, providing bass and background vocals.
Summar and the band’s upcoming shows:
Tuesday, July 3, Gruene Hall, New Braunfels (appearing w/ Two Tons of Steel)
Friday, July 6, Golden Light, Amarillo
Saturday, July 7, Hemphill County Pavilion, Jones Activity Center, Canadian, Texas
Sunday, July 8, Love & War in Texas, Plano (live “Shiner Sunday” concert broadcast on KHYI)
September 14-16, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Austin (time and date TBA)
