‘A SLICE OF AMERICANA’ DURING SXSW

Craving Records and Desert Highway Records Join Forces
to Focus on Best in Blues-Jazz-Roots-Pop-Rock-Texas Music

AUSTIN, Texas — Two independent record labels from opposite sides of the globe — Craving Records of New South Wales, Australia, and Desert Highway Records in Los Angeles — will join forces during South By Southwest 2007 to host a party to spotlight artists on their rosters that embody the spirit and diversity of music around the world.

Playing at the party noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Austin’s revered Antone’s, 213 W. Fifth St.:
12:30 p.m. LA-based songwriter Jamie Blythe (Desert Highway)
1:15 p.m. Twisted but traditional LA songwriter Bill Reveles (Desert Highway)
2 p.m. Austin-based blues-twang-rock-jazz songwriting team of Kelly Williams-Mann and Thomas Mann known as Melody Mann (Desert Highway)
2:45 p.m. New Zealand pop songbird Jackie Bristow (Craving)
3:30 p.m. Soulful Aussie blues-pop songwriter-guitarist Kara Grainger (Craving)
4:15 p.m. West Tennessee “blues-makers” Elam McKnight & the West Levee Phantoms (Desert Highway)

Craving Records was founded by violinist-vocalist Lara Goodridge (Australian electric string quartet FourPlay, folk-pop duo Joy & Lara) to explore new ways to promote music and open paths of opportunity via a collaborative relationship with artists. It provides a range of services, from licensing an existing recording to recording deals to securing major backing overseas and at home, all the time endeavoring to find a strong presence in the local and international marketplace. Craving Records is in the United States promoting two artists based in the States and looking to secure U.S. licensing and distribution.

LA-based independent label Desert Highway Records is dedicated to producing and distributing the best roots music possible. Its artists spent the winter touring the West Coast and Canada and releasing discs (Elam McKnight’s third, SUPA GOOD, D Trevlon’s A DANCE UNDER THE STARS) and the spring at festivals including SXSW, NXNE, Juke Joint Festival and ArtsWells (and the AMAs in the fall). This summer, artists go to Europe and the label is scheduled to release Desert Highway Radio All Stars Compilation).
