PALO DURO RECORDS
TO PRESENT
SHOWCASE DURING SXSW MUSIC FEST
MARKING RELEASE OF
TEXAS UNPLUGGED, VOL. 2
Label Talent to
Play Several Other SXSW Events
Austin, Texas --
Palo Duro Records will mark the release of TEXAS UNPLUGGED,
VOL. 2 with a free showcase during the South by Southwest
Music Festival by artists on the CD and the label's roster.
The Derailers as
well as Morrison-William, Darryl Lee Rush and Jon
Christopher Davis are expected to blow the roof off Lucky
Lounge, 209 W. Fifth St., 5-8 p.m. Saturday, March 18.
When Palo Duro
released TEXAS UNPLUGGED, VOL. 2 to national retail on
February 21, it went digital, too -- available to users of
iTunes, Napster, MSN, Starbucks and the like. The
all-original collection of tunes captures Texas music and
the musical artists making Texas music today.
The first cut on
TEXAS UNPLUGGED, VOL. 2, the Elvis-y, upbeat heartache tune
"I'm Still Missing You" by The Derailers, is already earning
airplay on stations nationally. The country-rock-pop band
that springs from somewhere among Orbison, Owens and The
Beatles just inked a deal with Palo Duro, with its Palo Duro
debut, SOLDIERS OF LOVE, produced by
songwriter-publisher-vocalist Buzz Cason, set for early
June.
"We're so happy to
have The Derailers' next release," says Chris Thomas,
president of Palo Duro, the 5-year-old label whose mission
is to celebrate the artists of Texas and the Southwest. "We
hope every lover of Texas music out there continues to get
his or her fix from Palo Duro records."
The Derailers are
also scheduled to play Friday, March 17, at the Texas Music
Magazine SXSW Showcase and Saturday, March 18, at The Broken
Spoke.
Palo Duro events
during SXSW start Saturday, March 11, with the world
premiere of the "Crazy Again" documentary about honky-tonker
Dale Watson and a pre-release party for his latest CD,
WHISKEY OR GOD (retail + digital: March 21), afterward 9:15
p.m. to close at The Broken Spoke. He also plays a CD
pre-release party at 10 p.m. Monday,
March 13, at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave.
Other Palo Duro
artists playing during SXSW:
- 5 p.m.
Thursday, March 16, Darryl Lee Rush and Lost Immigrants play
Shiner Records (a Palo Duro imprint) party at Stubb's BBQ,
801 Red River
- 3:30 p.m.
Friday, March 17, Morrison-Williams also plays Texas Music
Magazine Showcase; its set to be filmed for HD.net's "True
Music" program
- 10 p.m. Saturday, March 18, Americana Roots/TEXAS UNPLUGGED,
VOL. 2 party at Waterloo Icehouse featuring Sidehill
Gougers, Jon Christopher Davis, Morrison-Williams
In other Palo Duro
news, the label's deal with Fontana for distribution will
ensure that shoppers at Best Buy and HEB will find in those
stores' music sections re-releases of the CDs by all the
members of Palo Duro's roster, which includes the diverse
talents of Two Tons of Steel, Dale Watson,
Morrison-Williams, Eleven Hundred Springs, Jon Christopher
Davis, The Derailers and Ed Burleson.
On the horizon are
several Palo Duro Records releases, including Jon
Christopher Davis' debut CD in May, the CD/DVD of Two Tons
of Steel's "Two Tons Tuesday" summer music series, recorded
live at Gruene Hall, and the historical recording of ¡VIVA!
TERLINGUA! NUEVO! at Luckenbach.
