SUSAN GIBSON BRINGS 'SPACE'

TO AMERICANA CONFERENCE IN NASHVILLE

(Austin, Texas) -- Susan Gibson, the Texas songstress who penned the Dixie Chicks hit "Wide Open Spaces," brings cuts from her latest release, OUTER SPACE, to the 6th annual Americana Music Association Conference in Nashville and an unofficial showcase that starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, at Douglas Corner Cafe, 2106-A 8th Ave. South in Nashville.

Joining Gibson for that showcase will be Meridian, Tom Roznowski, Jeffrey Halford & The Healers, Amy Speace, Suzanna Spring, Michael Kelsh and Tom Gillam. Tickets are $5, $3 with an AMA conference badge or wristband. For information: 615.298.1688.

In recent weeks Gibson has been touring Texas with her band, Moving Parts, to mark the release of OUTER SPACE, a collection of 13 roots-rock tunes that includes "Happiest When I'm Moving" (co-written with Jim Lauderdale), a song that reflects the songwriter's upbeat traveling spirit, and her live version of "Wide Open Spaces."

Easily the edgiest work in the Gibson catalog, OUTER SPACE, co-produced with Jack Saunders and featuring some of Texas' finest musical artists, includes the kind of personal, soul-searching songs she is known for and some adventurous departures both musically and lyrically.

Gibson's live shows draw a steady stream of fans, including some who travel miles to see show after show. "The writing is sincere, and that makes it easy to perform," she said. "Likewise, the fact that I go out and perform these songs and have to look people in the eye keeps the writing sincere. It's one of the more beautiful vicious circles that I know."
