Singer-Songwriter Susan Gibson and Moving Parts
Play Austin Show,
Instore Behind New Album OUTER SPACE
(AUSTIN, Texas) ÷
Texas songstress Susan Gibson, backed by her band Moving
Parts, makes two special appearances in July in Austin to
celebrate her new album, OUTER SPACE (street date: July 12).
Gibson will appear
at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at an instore at Waterloo
Records & Video. On Saturday, July 23, at 9:45 p.m., Gibson
and Moving Parts take the stage at Cactus Cafˇ on UT campus,
with Bluehouse opening at 8:30. $10 tickets are available at
the door or call 512.475.6515.
Gibson ÷ backed by Michael
O'Connor on harmonic and electric guitar, Jack Saunders on
bass and Rick Richards on drums ÷ will treat fans to tunes
from OUTER SPACE, including its first single, "Happiest When
I Moving," co-written with Jim Lauderdale;
the percussion-driven "But a Dream," in which Gibson
separates reality from fairy tales; "Cactus," a sexy story
of a Mexican weed; "Stop the Bleeding," a nerve-jangling
look at moving on; and "Still Time," a lament about time
that won't stand still.
OUTER SPACE is easily Gibson's
edgiest work to date ÷ with
personal, soul-searching songs
that she is known for and some adventurous departures both
musically and lyrically ÷
and stretches her
singer-songwriter boundaries with its rocking roots sound.
Produced by Houston-based Jack
Saunders, the 14-cut album also includes a live version of
the Gibson-penned
"Wide
Open Spaces," which Dixie Chicks propelled into one of the
all-time best-selling country songs, with the album WIDE
OPEN SPACES selling more than 16 million.
In addition to
Lauderdale, Gibson co-wrote for OUTER SPACE the wistful
"Upon Reentry" with another notable, Billy Burnett, the
uplifting "Together Strong" with Randy Scruggs and Saunders,
and "Company Man" with Saunders.
