WORLD PREMIERE OF SECOND SKIN,
A LOOK INSIDE COMPUTER GAMERS’ VIRTUAL REALITIES,
SET FOR SXSW FILM FESTIVAL 2008

Austin, TX — The world premiere of Second Skin, the first feature-length documentary about Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOs) and the people transformed by the games’ virtual worlds, is scheduled for March 7, opening night of South By Southwest Film Festival 2008.

The documentary by Pure West Films debuts as a spotlight premiere in the company of 34 other such Spotlight Premieres as Martin Scorsese’s new documentary and Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock’s second directorial effort.

Second Skin will premiere at 9 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Austin Convention Center Theater, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin; theater information: 512.404.4000

The documentary will screen two other times during SXSW, both in the Austin Convention Center Theater. The screening at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, will be free to SXSW Interactive Conference registrants. The final screening is at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 13.

Second Skin takes an intimate look at people whose lives have become transformed by the virtual worlds in online games such as World of Warcraft, Everquest and Second Life. Couples who have fallen in love without ever meeting, disabled players whose lives have been given new purpose, those struggling with addiction, gold-farming sweatshop workers, wealthy entrepreneurs and legendary guild leaders: All live within a world that doesn't quite exist. The documentary focuses on a couple who met in a virtual world, an addict whose life was ruined by these games and a group of online gamers who spend most of their lives inside virtual worlds.

Second Skin was directed by Juan Carlos Piñeiro Escoriaza and produced by Peter Brauer and Victor Piñeiro Escoriaza. Executive producer is David Heilbroner, Sundance Grand Jury and multiple Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker.

During the film festival, Victor Piñeiro Escoriaza will serve on the SXSW Film 2008 panel “Blogs, Buzz and Buddy Lists,” on how artists can use the Internet to further their efforts, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9, in Room 12AB of the Austin Convention Center.

Although they spent time in Maryland, filmmaking brothers Juan Carlos Piñeiro Escoriaza and Victor Piñeiro Escoriaza have always considered San Antonio, Texas, their home, for the five formative years they lived there. Victor was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and the family visits the island annually.
