RUBY DEE AND THE SNAKEHANDLERS
RETURN TO NORTHWEST
TO SATISFY FAN DEMAND

Band Plays Duff’s Garage in Portland

Austin, Texas — Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers, the five-piece high-energy alt-country band led by gutsy songwriter-vocalist Ruby Dee, has been touring behind its acclaimed July release, NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD (Dionysus Records), and returns in November to the Northwest, where the band was born.

The band plays at 9 p.m. Thursday, November 9, at Duff's Garage, 1635 S.E. Seventh in Portland. Cover is $5; information: 503.234.2337.

“Ruby Dee & The Snakehandlers circumvented flannel and grunge for a whip-smart mix of Stray Cats-fed rockabilly and Blasters-inspired alt-country with a nod toward Cash and Cline,” writes The Austin Chronicle’s Margaret Moser. “Their latest CD … exhibits deft compositions and crack musicianship with 13 songs that prove they have one cowboy boot firmly in the Southwest, too.”

Las Vegas Review Journal describes the band’s music as “the kind of cast-iron honky-tonk that doesn't shed too many tears or scare easily.”

On NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD, outspoken musical warrior Dee is accompanied by Liz Smith on big flat-top acoustic guitar and harmonies, Pete Smith (no relation) on electric bass, Lewis Warren on drums, and Jorge Harada, who co-produced the album, on six-string Telecaster. Harada also added harmony vocals, percussion and baritone, slide and electric guitars on the disk, and album engineer and co-producer Conrad Uno also added percussion.

As the band revisits venues across the Northwest, upcoming shows include:

Wednesday, October 4, Highway 99 Blues Club, Seattle
Friday, October 6, Little Red Hen, Seattle
Saturday Oct 7, Hale’s Ales Brewery and Pub, Seattle,
Wednesday, November 1, Highway 99 Blues Club, Seattle
Thursday, November 9, Duff's Garage, Portland
Friday, November 10, Sengthong’s Blue Sky Jazz Room, Dunsmuir, Calif,
Saturday, November 11, Lost Weekend Lounge, Alameda, Calif.
Sunday, November 12, Sweetwater Saloon, Mill Valley, Calif.
