RUBY DEE AND THE SNAKEHANDLERS CELEBRATE RELEASE
OF NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD WITH SEATTLE SHOW
Fans Who Demanded More from Alt-Country, All-Country Combo
About to be Rewarded
Austin, Texas — The high-energy alt-country combo Rudy Dee and The Snakehandlers — whose style of Americana reaches from Northern California to Memphis to the Northeast and pleases all — is about to release a full-length debut album and mark it with a tour aimed at rewarding fans across the Pacific Northwest.
The five-piece band, voted Best Band in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer’s People’s Picks 2005, plays a CD release party for NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD (Dionysis Records, street date: July 11) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Highway 99, 1414 Alaskan Way, Seattle. Cover is $10; information: 206.382.2171.
Before and after, Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers starts and continues a tour across Washington State and Alaska, that continues in Texas, that marks its popularity because of honest, original songs written by a well-versed woman and a sound that encompasses all of country music: the aforementioned Bakersfield, honky-tonk, rockabilly, swing, insurgent country, Tex-Mex and rock ’n’ roll.
The band is led by songwriter-vocalist Ruby Dee. She is accompanied on big flat-top acoustic guitar and harmonies by Liz Smith, Pete Smith (no relation) on electric bass, Lewis Warren on drums and Jorge Harada on six-string Telecaster.
Dee penned eloquent, articulate tunes for NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD like “Who Is She?” about just wanting the truth from a man who comes home late with kisses on his breath. “Just One Day” is about recovery from addiction, and “Now I Want You (Out of My Head)” is about a breakup and how sometimes sharing pain, beds and baggage isn’t enough.
The band, a favorite on Seattle radio since its five-song CD was released, is now touring behind release on a nationwide basis, giving fans across the Pacific Northwest a chance to celebrate the band’s success with the it.
