TO SHOWCASE DURING SXSW
Band Features 3-Part Harmonies in Front of Jangling 12-String Guitars
AUSTIN, Texas — The internationally acclaimed Rockfour, Israel’s alternative rock trio, returns to Austin to play its first official showcase during South by Southwest Music Festival on March 16.
The show at The Continental Club starts at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 16. Information: 512.441.2444.
Rockfour will showcase originals on its upcoming album, MEMORIES OF THE NEVER-HAPPENED (Earsay, May 2007), including “Half and Half,” which the band played to win last fall’s College Music Journal/Zig-Zag® Live Band Competition. The album, its fourth English-language recording, also features the radio-ready “No Worries,” “Goes Around” and “Young Believer.” It was recorded at Earthling Studios in San Diego and at Rockfour’s studio in Tel Aviv.
With lead vocalist Baruch Ben-Izhak on guitar, Marc Lazare on bass and Issar Tennenbaum on drums, the band combines vintage and contemporary for a sound that makes Rockfour stand out from the crowd. “We do have a distinctive sound,” says Ben-Izhak. “Our music is based at times on melodic three-piece vocal harmonies, 12-string Rickenbacker guitars and ‘that thing’ we can’t give a name but, as other people put it, ‘sounds like Rockfour’.”
While on this side of the world, Rockfour plays Canadian Music Week, World Café Live in Philadelphia and several other dates along the East Coast before arriving in Austin for SXSW.
The band is current leader in voting by MySpace.com users in this year’s David Gilmour/David Bowie/Richard Wright “Arnold Layne” cover competition. The best entry, to be judged by Gilmour, Bowie and Wright and scheduled to be announced July 2, wins a day of recording at Abbey Road Studios.
