TEXAS CHANTEUSE PAULA NELSON
TO PLAY FITZGERALD'S IN CHICAGO AREA
Daughter of International Music & Film Star Willie Nelson
Blooming on Summer Tour Across U.S.
AUSTIN, Texas - Soulful, sultry singer-songwriter Paula Nelson
and her band will play a show in the Chicago area in early September
of her one-of-a-kind blues- and country-tinged rock sound, as
captured on her latest album, LUCKY 13 (Pedernales Records; February
2008).
Nelson and the band play at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, September 6,
at FitzGerald's, 6615 Roosevelt Road in Berwyn. Tickets are $10;
information: 708.788.2118, wwwfitzgeraldsnightclub.com.
Nelson - who will play the BMI Stage at Austin City Limits Music
Festival on September 26 - has earned high praise for LUCKY 13.
Says Texas Music Times: "Paula ranges from blues to Beatles
on LUCKY 13, and the result is a fun musical ride the most
notable tracks on the CD are 'Fire Below,' 'Baby You're Mean,'
'Find Your Way,' 'Standing Tall' and 'Day to Day Love.' In all,
Paula Nelson delivers her own individual treat of a record
[that] stands all on its own with or without a famous name. A
must-have."
Backed by a guitar-driven Southern rock sound, the singer-songwriter
with alto-to-soprano lead vocals, strong keyboards learned at
her aunt's knee, and writing depth and breadth brought together
jazzy rockers, seductive love songs and ballads like the elegant
"Day to Day Love" (with her father, Willie, and brother,
Luke Nelson).
She grew up in the aura of her outlaw-country music-making father
and his compadres, influenced by the vocals of such models as
Rita Coolidge and the caring encouragement of Austin club owner
Clifford Antone. In the early 1990s, she was performing all over
Austin. She's appeared with her father often, including the Farm
Aid concerts in Fort Worth and in 2007 in New York City.
Paula Nelson will spend August criss-crossing Texas, and this
fall, the Paula Nelson Band tours nationally, playing Arkansas,
Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico and
