Original Tunes of ‘Too Shallow To Swim’
AUSTIN, Texas — Houston-based Texas songstress Lisa Novak plays a special gig in Austin to showcase her sensual sound and original songs beyond the Bayou City and to celebrate her latest album, TOO SHALLOW TO SWIM.
The show starts at 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, at Waterloo Ice House South, 600 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin. Tickets are $5, available at the door. For information: 512.472.5400.
Novak’s TOO SHALLOW TO SWIM is a collection of pop-country-rock tunes by the singer-songwriter who has an armful of Houston Press Best of Houston honors to her credit, including Best Female Vocalist 2005-2006 for her strong, silky style and Best Folk/Acoustic Act in 2004 for her work with fellow Houstonian Melinda Mones.
Tracks from the album — such as “Fade Away,” which asks the eternal question “how many?” until the memory of a past love goes; the sweet love song “Fair Warning,” about the early stages of romance; and the craftily worded “I Remembered I Forgot” — demonstrate Novak’s smart, crisp, insightful way with words and music, turning life experience into musical expression.
Backing up Novak for the Austin show and contributing to the full, round, classic sound: Paul Valdez on drums (Houston Press Best Drummer 2005-2006), Michael Poulos on bass, Andy McWilliams on lead guitar and Rodney Miller on harmonica.
