“If you crave a singer who can play, a player who can write and a writer who can sing, Jon Christopher Davis is your man.” — Rodney Crowell
Prolific singer-songwriter Jon Christopher Davis has returned to the Lone Star State, for a number of reasons: to make the kind of music he wants to make, to join the recent blooming of the Texas sound, and to give a sense of family to a new daughter and his high-school-sweetheart wife, Kelli.
The Bonham-born Davis is preparing for the release of his new album and Palo Duro Records debut, JON CHRISTOPHER DAVIS (September 2006), and is playing selected dates around the state.
“I’m so excited about this new chapter in my career: no more committees over-thinking this stuff,” says Davis. “Palo Duro Records has given me the freedom to be who I am. I can’t wait to share this music with the world! It’s been a long time coming.”
During the previous years in Nashville, Davis wasn’t exactly idle. In fact, he racked up a trophy case full of credits and contacts. He wrote for publishers Warner Chappell and BMG, penning more than 20 cuts for artists such as Dolly Parton, Hal Ketchum, Tammy Cochran, Sherrie Austin, Billy Ray Cyrus and Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles.
He became friends and collaborators with many in the recording industry, artists like Rodney Crowell, Radney Foster, Steve Lukather of Toto, Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Famer Stan Lynch, Charlotte Caffey of The Go-Gos and hit producers Dann Huff and David Z.
“If you crave a singer who can play, a player who can write and a writer who can sing, Jon Christopher Davis is your man,” says fellow Texas native Crowell.
With the birth of their daughter, Claire Marie, Davis and his wife decided to move back to Texas so the baby could grow up around family and he could tap into its dynamic music scene. “The older you get, the more you realize just how important family and close friends are,” Davis says. “It just seemed like the right time to come home.”
