GRASSY KNOLL BOYS PLAY SHOWCASE
DURING FOLK ALLIANCE FESTIVAL

Austin, Texas -- As its Texas tour gains momentum, The Grassy Knoll Boys ö sharp pickers of the traditional bluegrass sound whose original tunes and new arrangements of old standards enliven the genre ö pauses to play during a showcase presented by Austin Friends of Traditional Music during the 18th annual International Folk Alliance Festival, being held February 10-14 at the Hilton Austin hotel, 500 E. Fourth St.

The Grassy Knoll Boys are scheduled to play at 10:35 p.m. Saturday, February 11, in The Bluebird Room, during the premier professional development conference in North America that focuses on folk, roots, multicultural and world music.

The Grassy Knoll Boys is a quintet with tight three-part harmonies, plenty of instrumental chops, and an edgy repertoire of bluegrass originals and lesser-known hillbilly, blues, gospel and work tunes. The band is "the Alex Chilton of bluegrass music -- totally classic but whose maverick lyricism, charm and originality transcend time and space," says Austin's KOOP Radio.

The band was born when Austin native Will Walden (guitar, lead vocals) met recent arrival David Hamburger (Dobro, vocals) and insisted that they form a band immediately. After recruiting Alex Rueb (mandolin, vocals), Mark Cavage (banjo) and Vance Hazen (bass), the band was off, blazing down the proverbial bluegrass music interstate.

Also sharing the AFTM showcase spotlight Saturday night in The Bluebird Room for the Austin Friends of Traditional Music are Basket Landing of Hawkins, N.Y., at 8:15 p.m., singer-mandolin picker Sarah Jarosz of Wimberley at 8:50, Feufollet of La Fayette, La., at 9:25, The Flat Mountain Girls of Portland, Ore., at 10, The Grassy Knoll Boys at 10:35, Bearfoot Bluegrass of Anchorage at 11:10, Old School Freight Train of Charlottesville, Va., at 11:45, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem of Middletown, Conn., at 12:20 a.m., and South Austin Jug Band at 12:55.
