THE GINN SISTERS PLAY BITTER END IN NYC
BEHIND RELEASE OF BLOOD ORANGES
Harmonies are Sweet & Strong, Just Like the Songs, Spirit Behind Them
Austin, Texas — The Ginn Sisters, the harmony-driven, Americana sister band, unleashes its powerful sound on New York City when it plays a special show at The Bitter End behind the release of its second album, BLOOD ORANGES (Sweetbird Records, June 27).
The band, featuring the exceptional talents of Central Texas sisters Tiffani and Brit Ginn (pronounced with a hard G), plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday August 24, at the famous club, 147 Bleecker Street in New York City. Cover is $5. For information: 212.673.7030.
Just a month after the new album’s release, BLOOD ORANGES is already garnering attention for the band, being ranked as Most Added Band on the national Americana/R&R chart and debuting there at #39.
The hip hometown Austin Chronicle calls BLOOD ORANGES “… a ripe, tasty offering. [The sisters] wear their small-town Texas upbringing with familial pride while Bradley Kopp’s production balances their rich vocals with austere, outstanding musicianship. Lead vocalist Tiffani wrote or co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs (Abi Tapia contributed ‘Get It & Go’) and carries the melody vocals with panache while playing guitar on ‘Not My Friend,’ ‘Hard Fall,’ ‘Broken Spirit’ and the witty ‘Down the Drain.’ Younger sister Brit’s sweet harmony chimes high, playing Helen to Anita Carter, especially on ‘Leave Me Standing’ and the sublime ending of ‘Hard Fall’ but turns to melody, too, on ‘Let It Burn.’ Some of BLOOD ORANGES’ pure Americana moments come when Tiffani and Brit croon to guitar alone, such as on ‘Not My Friend’ and ‘Dancing Shoes’ (‘Keep me in mind, me and my dancing shoes’). [They] melt their voices over the song like honey on an August day. …”
Tiffani’s vocals and guitar, Brit’s vocals, flute and melodica — backed by Kopp on electric and acoustic guitars, Larry Paul Passalacqua on lead acoustic guitar, Timmy Campbell on drums and percussion, and Lindsey Greene on bass, with additional harmony vocals by their mother, Kari Ginn — gives The Ginn Sisters its signature sound.
“If you want to hear two gifted sister singer-songwriters with a built-in harmonic sense that would make the Everly Brothers gnash their teeth in envy and send all the other burgeoning harmony singer-songwriters around back to the woodshed, then belly on up to the counter, put your money down and revel! This one is a real sleeper/keeper,” says HomeGrownRadioNJ, northwest New Jersey’s Internet radio station.
