DUDLEY & BOB
SHOW' FAMILY OF LISTENERS
READY TO TAKE IN STERN'S LEFT-BEHINDERS
(Austin,
Texas) -- When shock jock Howard Stern leaves his home on
earthbound KXBT-FM this month for his launch on Sirius
Satellite Radio in early January 2006, the loyal listeners
of 93.7 KLBJ's "Dudley & Bob Show," the long-standing,
raucous rock morning show of record in Austin, stand ready
to take in those Stern leaves behind.
As Stern's terrestrial listeners seek a new land-based
source, the crowd of fans of Dale Dudley and Bob Fonseca and
sidekick Charlie Hodge (with producer Angela Davis) want to
invite those newly disenfranchised to their own weekday
morning drive-time club of outrageous, raunchy, adolescent
-- not to mention FCC sanction-worthy -- humor.
"Dudley & Bob Show" has been beating Stern in the ratings in
the 25-54 demographic for 11 years now anyway, leaving
Dudley, Fonseca, Hodge and Davis as the most "inside" of
Austin radio insiders.
In those years, the show has come to be known for putting
more than a few Austin-based musicians on the map with
acoustic performances in the studio, including Lil'l' Cap'n
Travis, The Weary Boys, Carolyn Wonderland and Steve Poltz.
It's also known for its daily topics that prompt call-ins
and comments that range from the bizarre to the sublime and
for the show's listeners who do the calling-in so regularly
that they have been nicknamed (Political Dude, Hardcore
Christian, Teddy Bear and 88-year-old Gladys) by the morning
crew. Then there are the "Dudley & Bob Show" annual events
such as Flashback Prom and the Pregnant Bikini Contest.
The show has been rated Best Drive Time Show in The Austin
Chronicle Readers Poll for 11 of its 14 years and Best Radio
Program by the Austin Music Awards for 10 years in a row and
again in 2005. In the Austin Chronicle Critics Pick 2004, it
was said that "Dudley and Bob are a guilty pleasure."
"Dudley & Bob Show" plans a special week in the New Year to
welcome new family members, including a "Bring a Virgin
(Listener)" party on Friday, January 13, at KLBJ.
