LATEST ALBUM BY THE DERAILERS, SOLDIERS OF LOVE, HITS STORES JUNE 6

Legendary Buzz Cason Produced Band's Palo Duro Records Debut

Austin, TX — Country-rock dance-hall favorites The Derailers, a band that follows the Bakersfield sound but spikes it with rock 'n' roll, releases its Palo Duro Records debut, SOLDIERS OF LOVE, on June 6, with producer and songwriter credits going to Buzz Cason, legendary songwriter-publisher and member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

SOLDIERS OF LOVE, the sixth album from the band whose sound was born somewhere between Buck Owens and The Beatles, is 14 songs including the Texas anthem-in-the-making “Cold Beer, Hot Women and Cool Country Music,” the first song written by Cason and Derailers front man and lead guitarist Brian Hofeldt after they met last year and the album's first single for release; “An American Man,” Hofeldt's tribute to Johnny Cash; and a smooth-as-silk version of Cason's own “Soldier of Love,” which was a minor hit for Arthur Alexander in the early '60s and was featured on the Fab 4's 1994 LIVE AT THE BBC.

Cason had listened to Derailers records, but he got his socks knocked off by their performance during a Texas music festival last summer, offered the band his card, and six months later they were recording at Cason's Creative Workshop studio in Tennessee. “I liked the freedom and the reckless abandon they played with,” he says, apparently along with their sharp-cut suits. “That was the way [The Casuals, Cason's first rock 'n' roll band] dressed, too!”

On SOLDIERS OF LOVE, Hofeldt gets solid backup from bassist-vocalist Ed Adkins, drummer-percussionist Scott Matthews, pedal steel player and vocalist Chris Schlotzhauer, and piano pounder and organist Sweet Basil McJagger. Cason himself added background vocals, acoustic guitar, piano and some percussion on the disk. Pete Finney and Chris B. Carmichael played pedal steel and fiddle on a few tracks.

Together, the collection of rockers (“Hey Valerie,” “Get 'Er Done”), ballads (“The One Before Me,” “Every Time it Rains”) and an instrumental (“Poppycock,” with its Buckaroos-Ventures-Herb Albert mix) works the Derailers magic that fans know and fills dance-hall floors.

Release of The Derailers' SOLDIERS OF LOVE is part of a distribution deal between Palo Duro Records (“Country Music, Texas Spirit”) and Fontana Distribution, with the label releasing and re-releasing albums by artists on its roster including the spring's TEXAS UNPLUGGED, VOL. 2 and the fall release of ¡VIVA! TERLINGUA! NUEVO! – SONGS FROM LUCKENBACH.
