nelo RETURNS TO PLAY GEORGIA THEATRE IN ATHENS
Show is 1st Date of Inaugural Dell Lounge Presents Tour
AUSTIN, TX — Austin band nelo will play Athens, Ga., later this month as the first show date of the Dell Lounge Presents inaugural tour for bands.
nelo (rhymes with “hello”) plays at 11 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, at the Georgia Theatre, 215 N. Lumpkin St. in Athens. Tickets are $5; information: 706.549.9918. Local favorite, acoustic pop artist Brennan Johnson opens the show at 10 p.m.
Pop rockers nelo will release their debut studio album of up-tempo, upbeat originals on Feb. 12, 2008, co-produced by Freddy Fletcher and Steve Fishell for Texas-based Pedernales Records. High-school and college-age audiences (from the University of Texas to Duke University) are clamoring for the new recording and visiting the bands MySpace site to spin singles including “Jumping Bean” and “Goodbye” between 38,00 and 48,000 times.
The band — principal songwriter Matt Ragland on acoustic guitar, Reid Umstattd on lead vocals, Chris Hill on drums and percussion, Stephen Goodson on electric guitar, David Long on sax and flute, and Mike St. Clair on bass and trombone — has been touring nationally for more than a year, including shows in Phoenix, Nashville and Athens, where it gigged for a year and started building a fan base before moving to Austin.
nelo and Abilene ambient rock band Homer Hiccolm & The Rocketboys will play at least six dates this winter as part of the Dell Lounge Presents tour to give emerging bands a boost after they both earned mega-votes in the Austin City Limits Music Festival’s Dell Lounge-sponsored “The Sound and the Jury” online battle of the bands. http://www.delllounge.com/music/sandj/final5
Both bands will be part of multi-media concert events on Friday, December 7, at Aardvark in Fort Worth and on Saturday, December 8, at Antone’s in Austin as well in Houston, College Station on Feb. 8, 2008, and February 9 at the Granada Theater in Dallas.
