ROCK PIONEER ROKY ERICKSON
PULLS TOP BILLING AT 18TH CONROE CAJUN CATFISH FESTIVAL

Texas Food-Wine-Music, Cajun Dishes & Tunes, and More
Make Annual Community Happening Something Special

AUSTIN, Texas — Rock legend Roky Erickson (of the pioneering psych-rock 13th Floor Elevators) may be headlining the incredible entertainment lineup at the 18th annual Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival, to be held rain or shine Friday-Sunday, October 12-14, in the 10-block area around Conroe’s Downtown Square, but there’ll be so many more fun things for visitors to do — and eat. Hours for the festival are 6 p.m.–midnight Friday, 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

The three-day community happening is priced for families: Online discount tickets at www.ConroeCajunCatfishFestival.com are $6 per day and $15 for a 3-day adult pass. At the gate, prices are $10 for a day ticket, $5 for seniors 65 and older, and free for children 12 and younger.

Erickson, whose “You’re Gonna Miss Me” and other songs have influenced and/or been recorded by dozens of acts including REM, ZZ Top, Sonic Youth and the White Stripes, plays at 10:30 p.m. Friday, October 12.

Surrounding his performance, more than 40 musical acts (from the Cajun variety to Zydeco, Texas country, swing, blues and more) and dancing groups from across the state and beyond will entertain festival-goers from six stages. Players in the annual state fiddle association contest will amaze and impress them.

In addition to crafts booths and exhibits and a children’s area with pony rides and the Small Fry Stage for local dance groups, lots of catfish will be available for eating along with Cajun delicacies like gumbo, frog legs, boudin, shrimp, gator and more.

Always scrumptious, the festival’s Go Texan! Wine, Food & Entertainment area will feature Texas specialties such as wine and exotic game and other food products with tastings and cooking demonstrations daily. Texas songwriters will perform on the Go Texan! Stage, where the Texas Old-Time Fiddle Association Fiddle Contest also will be held.

Erickson, the veritable creator of garage, punk and grunge rock, will headline a musical lineup of many genres that includes The Gougers, Reckless Kelly, Josh Ward Band, Shake Russell, Ryan Bingham & the Dead Horses, Wayne Toups, porterdavis, Brennen Leigh, John Evans, Johnny Bush, Hunter Hayes, and players in the Texas Old-Time Fiddlers Association Fiddle Contest — all of whom are audience-pleasers.

The festival benefits the non-profit Friends of Conroe Inc., which works to enhance the quality of life in Conroe and Montgomery County through civic and cultural improvements. The group contributes funds to other established nonprofit organizations, promotes community projects and supports the renovation of the downtown Conroe area.
