Palo Duro Records Presents
Texas Bands Two Tons of Steel and Morrison-Williams
For a Special Evening at Historical Luckenbach Dancehall
(Austin, Texas) — Palo Duro Record brings together two of its acts — rockabilly combo Two Tons of Steel and Texas Progressive duo Morrison-Williams — for an evening of music in the historical Luckenbach Dancehall.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Morrison-Williams takes the stage at 9 and Two Tons of Steel closes out the show. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 day of show and are available at www.luckenbachtexas.com. Children 12 and younger are free. For information, 830.997.3224.
San Antonio-based Two Tons of Steel’s singular “countrybilly” sound is captured on cuts from its new album Vegas. Two Tons’ first single and the title tune from Vegas (Palo Duro Records, June 28) came in this week at #20 on the Americana Chart and moved up to #13 on the Texas Music Chart.
Vegas showcases the band’s rockabilly style, evoking the 1950s combo sound with masterful execution of the rock ’n’ roll beat, on-the-mark vocals, and country steel guitar and upright bass.
Weighing in with frontman and lead singer Kevin Geil at the Luckenbach Dancehall will be Dennis Fallon (electric guitar, harmonica), Ric Ramierez (upright bass, harmony vocals), Chris Dodds (drums, harmony vocals) and Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Famer Denny Mathis (also dobro).
Two Tons’ live shows highlight how the band has taken the classic rockabilly sound and molded it into something all its own — with songs like its signature tune, “Havana Moon” and its high-energy covers of The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” and Johnny Rivers’ “Secret Agent Man.”
Texas recording duo Shayne Morrison and Clint Williams of Morrison-Williams continue to tour behind their self-titled debut release (April 2005, Palo Duro Records) and its first single, "My Girl Friday."
“My Girl Friday” has been climbing on Nashville’s Music Row magazine chart and spinning on radio stations across America. Yes, it’s another cheatin’ song but told from the unusual perspective of the third party. A cautionary tale, it explains to an insensitive husband why his wife wound up in the arms of another.
Morrison and Williams knew they were a perfect musical match when they began collaborating six years ago after being introduced by a record shop owner in Tyler, and singer Williams eventually joined bass player Morrison in his hit-making country group Perfect Stranger.
While the pair’s new material is built on Perfect Stranger’s foundation, it travels several steps further into Texas progressive territory, with sophisticated yet accessible lyrics and strong melodies supported by soulful guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro and tight harmonies.
Morrison, a native of Carthage, now lives in Palestine, and Williams, born in Mineola, lives in Dallas.
Palo Duro Records (“Country Music, Texas Spirit”) continues to release the best of Texas-made music through its mom-and-pop operation, keeping a balanced roster of quality acts that includes Two Tons of Steel, Morrison-Williams, Eleven Hundred Springs and Ed Burleson.
Luckenbach, of Waylon & Willie fame, is a tiny, 10-acre Texas Hill Country hamlet where “everybody’s somebody.” It was established as a trading post in 1849, making it one of the oldest settlements in Gillespie County.
